Regional Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan

Central and Eastern Sydney Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Regional Plan

Through the National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Agreement bilateral schedule, the Commonwealth and NSW governments have acknowledged the importance of regional planning to identify local communities’ specific mental health support needs.

The Central and Eastern Sydney Regional Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan (the Plan) for 2024-26 builds on the collaborative work Central and Eastern Sydney PHN has done with its partners developing and implementing the initial Plan. The new plan incorporates the priorities of the Commonwealth/NSW bilateral schedule and includes 13 initiatives:

  • Adult Mental Health Centre and Satellite Network
  • Investing in Child Mental Health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing
  • Perinatal mental health and wellbeing
  • Enhancement and Integration of Youth Mental Health Services
  • Universal Aftercare Services
  • Distress Brief Intervention (DBI) Trial Program
  • Suicide Prevention and Postvention
  • National Phone/Digital Intake Services
  • Initial Assessment and Referral
  • Regional Planning and Commissioning
  • Workforce
  • Social and emotional wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strat Islander people in CES
  • Improved physical health outcomes for people with mental health issues.

This Regional Plan establishes a platform from which the PHN will engage with other key agencies and stakeholders to work together and combine resources to pursue shared priorities identified by the community.

A key priority of this work is ensuring that consumers and carers are central to the way in which services are planned, delivered, and evaluated.
