This year, Central and Eastern Sydney PHN’s advocacy work has focused on influencing and helping shape health care reform while advocating for strategies that better support those most at risk in our local community. We have:
Written 5 major submissions aimed at:
- improving the sustainability of Australia’s health care system
- promoting improved access to care for those with a disability
- ensuring general practices get incentivised and recognized for undertaking workforce and quality improvement initiatives.
- enabling our health care workers to work to their full scope of practice in a way that delivers high quality, safe, evidence-based care.
Facilitated workshops to build understandings and a collective agenda to advance the:
- financial sustainability of mental health and alcohol and other drug treatment programs
- health and wellbeing of those with a disability by exploring access barriers impacting healthcare accessibility for this group at a local level.
- Worked to improve service navigation and health literacy through our new online Health and Community Service Directory that lists over 1,500 local community services. This directory is free and can be accessed by health professionals and residents and helps connect those needing care and support to local services.
- Engaged with the PHN’s Community and Clinical Councils to highlight the health needs of war veterans and those experiencing homelessness.
- Continued rolling out the Green Practice Checklist which aims to encourage primary care providers to adopt more environmentally sustainable business operations.
